Annual Wellness & Breast Exams. Pap Smears. STD testing.
At Aayu Clinics, we provide an integrative approach to the unique health care needs of women. Your exam will include a full physical exam, clinical breast and pelvic screening with a pap smear, blood tests, vaccinations, and counseling as needed per your health history and concerns. Using a collaborative approach with you, we will discuss lifestyle changes and address any questions or concerns you may have.
Breast exams help detect early signs of breast cancer. Early intervention will significantly increase the effectiveness of treatment if cancer is detected. At Aayu Clinics, a provider will complete your breast exam by checking for lumps or irregularities in your breasts.
If abnormalities are found on exam, you will be referred for additional radiologic studies and specialists. We have strong network connections with many hospitals and can get you a referral to be seen as early as possible.
The provider will also teach you about knowing how your breasts look and feel and how to perform a self-examination, which you should do once every month.
At around 21 years of age, you should consider having a pap smear exam screening of cervical cancer. A pap smear helps to detect early forms of cervical cancer. Your provider will insert a small brush or spatula to gently scrap a tissue sample from the cervix while the speculum is in place. You will likely feel a brief pinching sensation. These cells are sent for laboratory analysis, and you will receive the results within a few days.
If abnormalities are found, we will help you get a referral appointment with an OB-Gyn doctor within our network connections.
If you are 21 or older, or are sexually active, you should have a pap smear test done every other year. Women 21 to 29 should have a pap smear every three years if results are normal. Women at age 30 and continuing until 65, should have a Pap smear combined with an HPV test every five years.
If you are sexually active, you can request STD testing as part of your women’s wellness exam. We can also discuss safe sexual practices with you, so you know how to protect yourself.
